The history of Zionism is often told as a European story transplanted into the Middle East. Most Israeli Jews today, however, have deep roots in the region - they come from families and communities that have been in the Land of Israel, Morocco, Yemen, Iraq, Iran, and other parts of the region for centuries. Join us to learn about the oft-forgotten story of Zionism in the region (from foundational religious thinkers like Yehuda Alqala'ai to Labor Zionists like Yisrael Yesh'ayahu-Shar'abi, who shaped the Great 'Aliyah), and, with it, the overlooked story of Israel itself.
