Parshat Tzav continues the laws of the sacrificial system, focusing especially on the duties and procedures of the priests (kohanim). It details how various offerings—such as the burnt offering, grain offering, sin offering, and guilt offering—are to be handled, emphasizing precision, continuity (like the ever-burning altar fire), and the sanctity of the rituals. The parsha then describes the seven-day ordination ceremony of Aaron and his sons, marking the formal establishment of the priesthood and their role in maintaining the sacred service in the Tabernacle.

Parshat Vayikra opens the Book of Leviticus with a detailed system of korbanot (sacrificial offerings) brought in the Tabernacle, outlining how individuals can draw close to God through ritual. It describes different types of offerings—olah (burnt offering), minchah (grain offering), shelamim (peace offering), chatat (sin offering), and asham (guilt offering)—each serving distinct spiritual purposes such as gratitude, atonement, or devotion. Parshat Terumah is about the Israelites participating in the building of the mishkan (Tabernacle), each contributing in his or her own way and each finding the way to help build together. We today come together to fight evil, but can we come together to build as well?

Parshat Mishpatim presents a detailed collection of civil, criminal, and ethical laws that translate the principles of the Ten Commandments into everyday life. The parsha addresses laws of damages, property, loans, servants, personal injury, social justice, and care for the vulnerable, emphasizing fairness, responsibility, and compassion. It also includes commandments about Shabbat, festivals, and loyalty to God. The portion concludes with the formal sealing of the covenant at Mount Sinai, as the people declare, “Na’aseh v’nishma” (“We will do and we will hear”), and Moses ascends the mountain to receive the tablets.

Parshat Yitro centers on the spiritual and communal formation of Israel in the wilderness. Moses reunites with his father-in-law Yitro, who advises him to establish a system of delegated leadership and judges to share the burden of governance. The Israelites then arrive at Mount Sinai, where they prepare themselves spiritually and physically to receive revelation.
